12:07 am - BLOODSTOCK! My review
Friday

Saint Daemon - Openers, not an easy task but one they took to with relish. Obviously enjoying the attention of those just taking the opportunity to look around the arena. Nothing special about their music, nothing memorable after a fortnight. If a mate had it on their stereo you'd not make him change it. 5/10

Dead Filmstar- Gothic metal I guess. Marylin Manson meets white zombie. However fairly poorly done I felt. A lead singer with male pattern baldness and full Iris contacts making 100-yard stare sweeps of the audience constantly while the 'keyboardist' took the time to press the occasional button on the keyboard/sampler and grinding with the guitarist half her age. This guitarist being the best showman of them all was tucked back in a corner. A mish mash on stage their sound was very samey and as you'd expect from the post-manson gothic scene. I'd tolerate their presence as a support but wouldn't go out of my way to see them. 4/10

TYR - A slow start. I'll be honest a little dull. Until they broke out Hail to the Hammer! Then all the stops were pulled out and those that had left by then missed out on a show, a show that makes me want to see them again. Skol! 7/10

Akercocke - When I saw these on the bill, I knew I had to see them. I first knew of Akercocke at Tinfoil_Star's recommendation of sorts a few years ago. I can't listen to them much although I quite like verdelet. Live however they were fantastic playing verdelet and "of menstural blood and semen" the two songs I'd say I know of them. It was so weird watching a man who looks like my Uncle Tony with long curly black hair issuing the gutteral sounds of hell. "It's time to bring some FUCKING SATANIC BRUTALITY to Bloodstock" awesome. There was one point where the bassist opened up on the first string. I heard it, then felt my ankles, knees, waist and chest vibrate in turn. Brutal. Or as Paul Templing of Sorcerer's Spell said "very heavy" I doubt I could stand up to much more of them at once but if they were supporting or at another festival I'd be pleased to hear them. 7/10

Son of Science - Formed by an ex-dragonforce bassist this band didn't dissapoint. The long haired bassist rippling his fingers down a very sexy six string bass and owning every fret on the board. His facial gurning was also pretty spectacular. The band looked odd and the singer didn't sound as metal as expected but I was won over in the end. The best part being however when the singer dissapeared off stage and the instrumental started up. Now I'm always taken by a bass player who plays skillfully with his fingers (that's what she said) and always by a bass solo. This was fantastic. Definatly worth seeing, I intend to check them out some more. 7/10

Primal Fear - I wasn't scared - 6/10

Sorcerer's Spell - Before reading this you should know I am incredibly biased. I live with the bass player from the spell and would like to suggest I'm the biggest fan outside the band. From the comic power metal stage entrance this show was special. The epic intro to Sorcerer's Spell making a change from their usual epic intro'ed Lead us to Anthror which was played second. A great job from the sound desk who mixed the band nigh on perfectly. I know Amy was slightly concerned her Keys weren't loud enough but on the day and seeeing the video I think they were right. Not overpowering and with the addition of actually hearing the keys. Now any band can win over their own fans but somewhere beyond the sea reared it's seafaring head and the tent looked more full of people than anytime other than when it was raining. All those who had spurned Soulfly on the main stage appeared to be getting involved. This is the point where I should point out Magnus, the viking placed on the bass's machinehead. He is truly hard rocking. I think all appreciated his time out from rape and pillage to make our spell experiance much more enjoyable. Also Trim's penis, that remained obliterfried by his leather trousers. Should have used a courgette, there was enough in the campsite! Take the keep continued spell's mighty form and the crowd participation reached new levels as we all cried out to Jaegarmeister Metal. An epic set, with some nice touches added to 'Anthror and amazingly, we were able to hear guitars, vocals and backing vocals! Brilliant set, I just wish there was more time for the spell to showcase their sonic diversity with Pay for me (Bitch), fields of the fallen and land of the unknown sorely missed. 9/10

Helloween - In the streets on halloween! A perfectly delivered set from the cheesy power metallers. A 'Tap-esque introduction to each band member in turn, each playing a solo or ditty. Dr Stein had the crowd roused and having Andi Deris getting the crowd to sing about how perfect I am was brilliant. I am seriously impressed. I struggle with Helloween on CD. It's all a little samey and wishy-washy but live, it's a showcase, full on entertainment with red sequined jackets! Brilliant 9/10

Opeth - Whilst waiting for Opeth I found my leg muscles had not the power to keep me standing. So perhaps I didn't have the awakeness needed to get Opeth. I just saw no reason that they were headliners, especially over Helloween before. A boring set I feel there's some understanding others have that I don't. I'm sorry if this seems unfair and low, maybe just not my thing. 5/10

Saturday

Evil Scarecrow - What a start to the day. What an amazing unsigned band! Dressed in white face paint with random blood drippings, with stage names and costumes. What more could you need? The band showed great humour and had a definate stage presence. They started off with a rousing number to shouts of "HELLDOG" this was infectious stuff! Forests calling names may seem slightly wacky, I mean trees don't talk but it went down well. Finishing on the song that got them there robototron had the crowd really enjoying themselves. Headbanging, robot style! Ooh yeah. Special mention has to go to the incredibly attractive Princess Luxury and the split in her dress running nigh on to the top of those powerful looking thighs. Ooooh yeah! 9/10

Witchsorrow - True doom for the believers. Slow head banging and 45bpm with ringing bass notes. Enjoyable and showing the great diversity of BOA. 6/10

Eluveitie - This was one of the best new sounds to my ears. I hadn't heard eluveitie before but I certainly have now! Since that day Inis Mona keeps popping in my head. In Flames meets Korpiklaani. The mix of hurdy-gurdy, violin, bagpipes and bodhran with cruncy bass and a crazy guitarist who wouldn't stand still. It could have sounded a mess but from where I was standing the sound men had done a damn fine job. In fact the sound check was great nevermind the set. The very attractive Anna Murphy on hurdy-gurdy and Violinist were dancing with each other like they were at a school disco. Everyone seemed to have such a good time. Before their last song the crowd was taught a gaelic phrase for "pretty girl, buy me a beer" which would have been great if I could remember it, or if the beer wasn't so expensive. Fantastic, I'm desperate to see them play again. 10/10

Swallow the Sun - Apparently, according to the compare, like Bathory. I have to say, REALLY not a fan. - 4/10

Moonsorrow - For this show I was standing in front of ANNA MURPHY!!! Oh and the rest of eluveitie. I'd spoken to the guys of Eluveitie a little bit before. Moonsorrow I'm told played an epic set. I was a little dissapointed. - 6/10

Napalm Death - Apparently an awesome set. I left pretty quickly. I'll be honest, I only went to say I'd seen them. I don't feel I listened to enough to be able to rate them fairly.

Concept of Time - An interesting sound but nothing spectacular. I thought the sound guy could have worked their sound a little better as well. 6/10

Metalloid - Same sound guy as above I guess. The slight rain and cloudy threat of more swelled the tent for metalloid. A fair sound but with very little stage presence. 6/10

Soilwork - An amazing set! I'm not a sOilwork fan but this was a brilliant set in the drizzle. The singer said thanks to everyone for standing in the rain because had it been sweden they all would have fucked off home. He obviously didn't realise that this was our summer. "Swedish people are pussies!" that got a cheer. We like it in this country when Johnny Foreigner knows his place. Rejection role had the crowd moshing, although Soilwork suggested that they beat up in flames in the video for the song. I know some people who think quite the oppsite. Two small pits became one large pit by the end. 7/10

Iced Earth - American Power Metal. Like all things in America bigger is better and Schaeffer's mutton chops proved it. A ballsy sounding set with an on form vocalist. Incredibly enjoyable! 9/10

Dimmu Borgir - FIRE!!!! We all love pyrotechnics so the band get +1 for that. However I found the music so boring. Dimmu just weren't firing for me. Songs lacked energy and I don't think they ever showed their potential as a live band. 5/10

Sunday

Heaven's Basement - Refreshingly Jovi-esque. 6/10

Alestorm - The sea of pirate flags and nancies. Oh and men dressed as pirates was fairly spectacular. Alestorm proved an enjoyable band if a little boring towards the middle. The crowd was involved from the off, and by off I mean the best soundcheck ever seen. From the Fresh Prince intro the crowd went wild, Pirate style! An awesome keytar and terrible pirate accents added to the fun. People went crowd surfing on boogie boards and all wished the bar sold mead for there were plenty of wenches. The bassists purple beard extension made the set for me. Alestorm - 5/10, Crowd - 9/10!

Grand Magus - Do not share the same opinion of monarchy as I do. Sounded okay though. 6/10

Ravenage - A band that I fear may struggle with the turisas stamp. A good show even with stage problems. 6/10

Necrosadistic goat torture - Really enjoyed the 1 and a bit songs I caught, a very cute singer with a hell mouth. I hope though she doesn't fuck her voice up because that sounded painful. A provisional 7/10

Kataklysm - The moshers seemed to enjoy it. I found it generic but very loud. Loud can be good. - 5/10

Ted Maul - Why such a big fuss? These guys sounded okay but not the be all and end all they were made out to be. 6/10

Musta Talvi - A lead singer who looks just like Alexi Laiho. If he had said fuck more often I would have believed it was Alexi. He seemed to dominate the other members of the band. That may be a blessing, the bassist with his squinty eyes and his moobs falling out his sleeveless t-shirt could not keep rhythm especially when trying to headbang even on the very simple bass lines. Many more performances like that and I'd oust him from the band. The drummer had apparently never found the magical and mystical 'TIME' if he was in time ever, I didn't hear it. The red haired guitarist tried to livey up the crowd, only to have the singer appear hurt and try to illicit a larger responce from the crowd in a cock measuring contest. It's a shame the length people have to go to when they have such small a small penis. It's always easy to get a response from your own fans as I said previously and a response was garnered after pathetic and embaressing urging from the singer to have a 'massive pit' The singer jumped the barrier and got involved. I figure he needed to in order to make it more than 3 people. A truly aweful and embaressing set from Musta Talvi who have had so much said about them. I sincerely hope they buckle down before supporting powerquest. I'd like to see them again because I can't believe they got this far being that bad. 1/10

Silent Descent - Trance metal from Dartford. Now I've been to Dartford for work in a school down there. After 6 weeks in the 'ford you understand why the music is so beautiful sadistic and violent. A brutal set including a wall of death. My one concern is the violence of their fans. Something that passed moshing and was on the line of abusing each other. I hope that doesn't hinder this bands rise. This is truly brutal with a sound that is distinctly British. Silent Descent were one of the best bands of the festival. A shame not more people saw them. 10/10

Overkill - Impressive. These guys rocked hard. So hard. All that can be said is Fuck You! - 7/10

At the gates - Apparently this was a big deal. Apparently I really fucking missed something. By this point the smell of the people in fronts hair was aweful and the guy next to us growling "AT THE GATES" every 30 seconds as it pissed it down was really annoying. I wasn't in the best of moods but even if i had been I would have found one of the most boring bands of the entire weekend. Seriously. What am I missing? - 3/10

Nightwish - Nightwish without Tarja sound... BETTER! Annette has really grown into her role as lead singer, taking a sexy, no nonsense take on the whole set. She's being herself and seems comfortable with that rather than a Tarja replacement. Oh and boy has she got the moves. The band as a whole sounded a lot heavier and looked a lot happier. The guitarist had stickers of lingeried models on his guitar and would often ask the crowds approval of them. The firework display was much more inventive than Dimmu's the night before. Tuomas on guitars looked serious and played that way. A chiding from Annette to some people holding up a fishmaster sign showed a band happy to interact with the audience. I just wish I had of found the guitar pick thrown in my direction that magically vanished. Wish I had an angel was a song stuck on repeat for the next 2 weeks as nightwish closed their set 2 songs short. An excellent set and a brilliant pyro display. 9/10 (Wish it had been longer)

BOA08

Weather was fine for the majority of the weekend, keeping rain til the night. Problems with too few toilets were rectified slightly by increased cleaning from friday morning onwards. An unfortunate security policy of no camping stoves ruined my festival food plans leaving me greatly out of pocket. However my £85 ticket and my friends £55 sunday day ticket both seemed good value. What does concern me though is the appearance of people who's only activity of the weekend was to stay in the campsite all day everyday drinking and listening to a ghetto blaster. Why bother going if you're not going to get involved and listen to the bands? Also where did you get enough beer to drink for 4 days?

So I was reading about feats with bows.

"The worthy Padre Fray Antonio Agapida describes the stranger knight and his followers with his accustomed accuracy and minuteness. 'This cavalier,' he observes, 'was from the island of England, and brought with him a train of his vassals; men who had been hardened in certain civil wars which had raged in their country. They were a comely race of men, but too fair and fresh for warriors; not having the sunburnt martial hue of our old Castilian soldiery. They were huge feeders also, and deep carousers; and could not accommodate themselves to the sober diet of our troops, but must fain eat and drink after the manner of their own country. They were often noisy and unruly, also, in their wassail, and their quarter of the camp was prone to be a scene of loud revel and sudden brawl. They were withal of great pride; yet it was not like our inflammable Spanish pride: they stood not much upon the pundonor and high punctilio, and rarely drew the stiletto in their disputes; but their pride was silent and contumelious. Though from a remote and somewhat barbarous island, they yet believed themselves the most perfect men upon earth; and magnified their chieftain, the Lord Scales, beyond the greatest of our grandees. With all this, it must be said of them, that they were marvellous good men in the field, dexterous archers, and powerful with the battle-axe. In their great pride and self-will, they always sought to press in the advance, and take part of danger, trying to outvie our Spanish chivalry. They did not rush forward fiercely, or make a brilliant onset, like the Moorish and Spanish troops, but they went into the fight deliberately, and persisted obstinately, and were slow to find out when they were beaten. Withal, they were much esteemed, yet little liked, by our soldiery, who considered them staunch companions in the field, yet coveted but little fellowship with them in the camp. Their commander, the Lord Scales, was an accomplished cavalier, of gracious and noble presence, and fair speech. It was a marvel to see so much courtesy in a knight brought up so far from our Castilian court. He was much honored by the King and Queen, and found great favor with the fair dames about the court, who, indeed, are rather prone to be pleased with foreign cavaliers. He went always in a costly state, attended by pages and esquires, and accompanied by noble young cavaliers of his country, who had enrolled themselves under his banner, to learn the gentle exercise of arms. In all pageants and festivals, the eyes of the populace were attracted by the singular bearing and rich array of the English Earl and his train, who prided themselves in always appearing in the garb and manner of their own country; and were indeed something very magnificent, delectable, and strange to behold.'"

So let me get this straight, the English in spain wore their own clothes, got drunk, ate English food, were roudy and went for a good fight! Isn't that what Malaga is all about today? Just without the moors!

Helen's gone away for a whole month. :( She's gone to Jordan on an Archaeological dig. It's amazing how in 7 months she's become so key to my life I can't do things like work out what to eat!

I intend to fill my time with archery, beer and bloodrayne!

It's been a while, what with work being alll hectic and the like. 12 hour days, in work 7 days a week. Eugh! The worst part is I still don't have the correct means to book my overtime. Grrr. I am taking very careful note though.

I purposely went for a job near Reading, found one 10 miles away! Excellent. Until I get stuck on a project 95 miles away. I should be working on integration of fire, security and Building Management Systems (BMS) however at the moment I'm filling in gaps as everyone is super-busy. To busy to show me what I should be doing. Needless to say I'm bored, unenthused and cream-crackered!

Helen has been a wonder, so many times after a 2 or 3 hour commute home has she had my dinner waiting for me. It's the little things that just mean so much. Her mum and brother are cool, in fact because I'm working near her home I stayed with them last week when she went home for christmas. I enjoyed myself but for the single bed meaning I had to sleep on the cold camp bed. Still her mum's moving soon into a house where Helen will have a big double bed for when I stay round. Whoop! Whoop!

As the year draws to a close I've been thinking about it alot. At the begining of December I binned two roses that had been unmoved since January in Stevie's house, where I lived last year. Despite being screwed up in the bin, dry and old they still looked pretty like this year I guess. My life is a little on its head. I imagined myself last year living in Bedfordshire, on a teaching course and planning a wedding. Instead I live in Reading, with my new girlfriend working a 9 til 5 (or 0600 to 1800 if you want to be picky!) and being really, really happy with that. This year has been a year with some of the biggest decisions for me in it. I've made decisions this year I guess rather than simply go with the flow. Sometimes I've been hit by the flow. But 2007, when I look back on my life will be one of those fulcrum-esque years!

Merry Christmas.

November 1st I made the company let me go to site and again on the 2nd. I got paid on the thursday to go shopping in Camden. Muhaha. Got home early and spent the evening with Helen. It was all good!

This week however I haven't done a lot. On thursday I'd finished my work by 0930. Had to wait til 1715 just in case there were any queries with the drawings I had submitted. Grrr

I get to go to Wembley next thursday with the company for a tour around the stadium. I went to see Metallica there so I know what it looks like but an hour and a half paid tour of wembley (and a meeting grrr) sounds alright to me.

Work sucks.

Why? Because they're giving me shit all to do! I could handle work, I quite like the mornings worth of work I've done in 7 whole days there. My desk is right everyone walks past so I have to look like I'm busy when I have nothing to do because I've come at a hectic time.

Well give me some work to do fools and I'll help sort it wether it be in my remit or not. I'm just bored.

Only the flicky thing on my new car keys keep me sane(ish)

On other notes:

With great power comes great responsibility!

Oh and have a good Samhain.

Got a company car today. It's not as nice to drive as my Eagle. Okay it might be cleaner, smoother, faster, have more gadgets, have more safety features etc etc but I can't FEEL the road with it. Far too smooth. Oh and there's no real force to the pedal. Sucks.

Got the train into work this morning. Got some funny looks walking in wearing a suit and jedi robes. mieh, it was cold! You know when you sit on a train and there's always the pretty woman who's sitting in your eyeline? Well she's usually there either that or a disabled child and either way you end up looking at them a lot without meaning to.

Got into work today and about 10 minutes later the woman who was off yesturday and sits right in front of my desk so I face her happened to be said pretty woman. Heh. Same thing. Every time I looked up it's as if I'm staring at her. Makes the office look better (although my office is full of HOT women!) though a picture of Helen would do that just as well (not that she'd believe that.)

Canteen rocks. £2.50 main meal which was a choice of three different sausages, mash and onion gravy. I had pork and leek. Dessert? Tiramisu!! 60p!!! How good is that. Tommorow is curry. So gonna need a bib.

Every sunday and tuesday when I have to leave my house in Reading to come home seems to get harder and harder to do. Seriously I'm starting to struggle to do it. It just feels like Helen and I have always been together and yet it's such a ridiculously short relationship so far. Yet we're not intense I don't think. Friday we moved around the pub all night so there were times where we were together and times when we were apart and so friends got Mark, Helen and Mark & Helen. I don't know why we just seem to work well. She'll keep looking over to check I'm good and I'll keep making sure she's alright and it reminds me of the way my sister's dog, bonnie was with her puppies. She'd leave to go to the toilet and come back and just reassure herself and the puppies by touching them all with her nose. :)

So I handed in my notice at the bakery. By handed in notice I said "Honeywell said they'd give me a job dunno when. Here's 4 ales!" so we opened and tried them. 4 bottles on monday, one on tuesday 3 today. A few tommorow. If the bakery could pay anything like 22k and was commuteable from the Ding it really would be the best job in the world. We watch films, eat pies, drink beer and have a laugh and a joke whilst doing good honest work. Love it.

My sister found her bitch and dog locked together the other day so we're praying Bonnie isn't pregnant. She needs a rest from her last litter. LH John broke up with Bryz at the weekend and I really want a beer. Might go grab one now!

Your 'Do You Want the Terrorists to Win' Score: 68%

You are a terrorist-loving scoundrel who hates our dear leader and the values he defends. There are few redeeming qualities about you. You most likely celebrated when the evil-doers hit us on 9/11, then opposed the Iraq war when we tried to pay them back. You hurt us at every step and cause troops to die in the field by questioning Bush's decisions. You are most likely a lost cause, doomed to be a brainwashed victim of free thought and liberalism forever. No dose of Ann Coulter's prose can save you now.

Went to Reading to start my A-Level Biology night school classes on tuesday and to be honest I would have missed everything bar Led Zeppelin to have stayed with Helen. :)

I was supposed to drive to Blackpool on friday but after getting knackered on tuesday and then wednesday having my early night turned into a stupidly late one by a desperate dude trying to cling on to one of his last remaining good friends here, I suggested to Helen that she stay here thursday night and drive me after work on Friday.

So Wednesday I said cheeri-byes to Dude, only to have him insist I go round the next day if only so he could meet Helen and like I said above, with the Dan situation I think he didn't want to leave for uni as I don't intend to live here when he gets back and Lil' Sarah's off with her new boyfriend all the time. Leaving him alone to go slowly mental in his head during the week with only Lisa to help him at weekends. It's an uberly harsh assesment and I'm exaggerating things a bit but it's kind of like that.

Helen turned up as my parents took my youngest nephew to Disneyland Paris. I readied some books for Dude but kissing Helen ended in me not leaving bed for a good few hours. We watched Shaun of the dead and got physical some more :0! It's the little things she does for me that just make me feel so special. Simple things like choosing her best underwear especially for me and little things like that that other people don't know or would find insignificant.

Friday we drove up to Blackpool. Had fantastic fish and chips from the Cottage shared a double bed for the first time. She said she kept waking for no reason and was amazed by the heat I gave off. What can I say? I'm like a 2kW electric heater! Went around the pleasure beach on the majority of the rides from opening to closing. Sunday we drove back. At night we started to watch Hellboy and started Kissing. She said "As much as I love you I'm going to be boring and have to go to bed!" She'd drove for 5 hours that day so I put her to bed and about 10 mins later burst in "You said you loved me!" To which she merely responded, "Hah you're so slow!!"

Hehe. It's a fan-fuckin'-tastic weekend. To make up for last weekend I guess. She left today and then she struggled to leave being tempted to jump me before she went. Hehe.

I beam, just beam so much. My smile is from ear to ear. I can't get over how she's almost as smitten with me as I am with her!

AWWWWWWWW!

My sister's wedding was on friday so I couldn't go to see Helen and I got a phonecall saying I didn't get the job.

All in all a really shitty day!

Eugh! I really need a job but so many ask for 6 months experience, if not 2 years. How am I going to get that experiance? Huh? I want to do something with my degree otherwise I might as well have done sociology and spent my time getting drunk and sleeping with the slappers! I'm starting to get desperate now. I belong in the 'ding not at home. Add to that that Helen is in the 'ding and I really belong there.

7:54 pm - I could have wound up having sex back there [/Nick Hornby]
Went for a second interview today, which was more like they had me do a days work for nothing. So last night Helen and I had the house to ourselves. By the gods she's a foxy little minx, she might look innocent but when the moment takes her she's Naaaasty! :)

So fucking good.

Led Zeppelin tickets as well. I have to have them. Neeeeeeed them. So maybe I can pass knebworth without wanting to cry!

We went round the walled gardens today and then made out on top of a huge pile of rocks. It was awesome. Hehe.

Network, you're a scary middle aged guy who's admitted your only friends are people you play BF2 with in an online clan. I do not need to hear about your BDSM and how you couldn't be Jedi because you could never just let yourself go with the flow. Your lack of faith in anything higher than ourselves is fine so long as you realise that you'd still need faith to believe in scientific evidence. Oh and that I don't want to hear about it at 0400 when I'm tipsy and you're just shouting down a very sensible Christian and myself AFTER asking me what it meant to me to be a Jedi and a pagan.

6:23 pm - Kisses
Friday I got in to the 'Ding. Was welcomed by Helen. Had some friends(who are more like family) over and they liked Helen alot. They left and Helen and I kissed goodnight. A long kiss goodnight.

Saturday I went to a job interview type thing. My advertising campaign won our group one challenge and then during a survival excercise thing the people judging us were laughing. They later told me they were laughing because I was saying exactly what the SAS were saying in their perfect example. Still didn't get through. Bastards.

I got home to a kiss from Helen, went and changed out of my suit and my dinner was waiting for me, with the kettle boiling for my cup of tea. It was so great and funny at the same time. I pointed this housewife situation out to her and she said "Don't get used to it!" hehe. We watched south park the movie. Neither of us had seen it in a while and I needed some cheering up. That finished and I got up to get us both cherry bakewells and myself a cup of tea. Before the kettle could boil Helen got up to give me a kiss. The kettle boiled, the water sat there getting cold while we just kissed. In the other room the southpark credits ended, the menu played through and the film started again. After about 15 minutes Helen said breathily that my water had gone cold. I told her it just showed she was better than tea. VERY high praise. hehe.

We carried on kissing and moved to the couch. The damn southpark movie finished. We both seemed amused that we'd been kissing for longer than the film. She turned it off so it didn't play again and still we carried on kissing. Finally though I got my tea and we watched V. Such a good night. It was weird kissing for kissings sake. I did like it though. I'm so loved up it's stupid!
